Dawn on the Rim Trail
We camped at the Thompson Mountain lookout to shoot the wildflowers in full bloom. It is about a 15-minute hike to the morning location downhill from the lookout. Hey, that's easy compared to most of our mountain photography! The sun was about to rise at 4:52 when I took several shots of these beautiful bear grass flowers. Sprinkled in among the bear grass are small white Sandwort blooms. I love the color in the sky before sunrise when the air is a bit hazy. And I'm a sucker for layer upon layer of hills and mountains fading off into the blue distance. The morning breeze died for a few seconds and the flowers are sharp.
